There is a call for the government to hike taxes on fossil fuels to pay down the spiralling student HECS debt. Struggling students and graduates are about to be hit by a 4.8 percent hike on their loans thanks to indexation. All eyes are now on the may budget with Labor admitting it needs to do more to help young people saddled with a growing debt at the start of their working lives.
