A man surnamed Yoon, 36, was booked without detention for leaking a copy of the romantic box-office hit “Architecture 101” online, Korea’s cybercrime response center said.
Yoon works as the team manager for a culture and welfare business, which undertakes welfare programs such as providing army facilities or foreign cultural centers with free movies.
Yoon is facing charges of allegedly forwarding the movie file which he received from Lotte Entertainment to his friend on April 4, about two weeks after the movie was released in cinemas.
Investigators found Yoon had told his friend to “delete the file after watching it alone,” but the movie file was sent to another acquaintance. The movie was uploaded on a file sharing site on May 8, officials said.
The estimated losses caused to movie company Myung Films is 7.5 billion won.
Eleven others who received the copy and leaked the contents to other users online were also indicted.

경찰청 사이버테러대응센터는 영화 ‘건축학개론’의 영상 파일을 유출해 유포되게 한 혐의(저작권법 위반)로 문화복지사업 업체인 P사 팀장 윤모(36)씨를 불구속 입건했다.
경찰은 또 영상파일을 받아 영화를 보고는 이를 지인에게 메신저로 전달해 유포시킨 혐의로 A씨(34•여) 등 11명도 불구속 입건했다.
군 시설이나 해외 문화원을 대상으로 무료 영화상영 등의 복지사업을 하는 P사에서 일하는 윤씨는 영화 제공사인 롯데엔터테인먼트로부터 받은 ‘건축학 개론’ 영상을 갖고 있던 중 영화 개봉일(3월20일) 이후인 4월5일께 컴퓨터로 영화파일을 동영상 파일로 만들어 평소 알고 지내던 A씨에게 이메일로 보내 유출한 혐의를 받고 있다.
윤씨는 A씨에게 ‘너만 보고 바로 삭제할 것’을 부탁하며 영상파일을 보냈으나 이를 본 A씨는 지인 B씨(33•여)에게 메신저로 이를 전달했고 이후 계속해서 메신저와 파일공유사이트를 통해 영상파일이 전달된 것으로 조사됐다.
경찰은 영상파일을 전달받은 사람들은 영화가 극장에서 상영중임을 알고도 죄의식 없이 지인들에게 전달하거나 파일공유사이트에 게시했다고 설명했다.
경찰 관계자는 “4월에는 개인적으로만 전달되다가 5월8일 파일공유사이트에 영상파일이 올라오면서 겉잡을 수 없이 파일이 퍼져나갔다”며 “영화 제작사인 명필름 측은 극장수익과 부가판권, 해외판권 등을 포함해 75억원 상당의 손해를 추정하고 있다”고 말했다.
