Chinese singer Li Yuchun was named a goodwill ambassador for the Korea Tourism Organization on Wednesday.

According to the KTO, Li will visit famous tourist spots in Korea through Saturday this week as her first mission to promote Korean tourism to the Chinese people.

The trip will be filmed and broadcast by Hunan Provinces’ Entertainment Channel. It will also be broadcast live on Weibo, a Chinese equivalent to Twitter, and the KTO’s website introducing Korea’s famous tourist attractions at www.ibuzzkorea.com.

“We plan to promote travel to young Chinese women with Li’s free-spirited and boyish charm. Li has drawn a huge female fan base in China with her unconventional character,” said Han Hwa-joon, director of KTO’s China Team.

Li rose to stardom after winning the televised singing contest “Super Girl” in 2005, which drew the largest audience in Chinese TV history.

She was listed on the Forbes top 10 Chinese celebrities list as the youngest artist in 2007 and also named 2011’s top-earning young Chinese entertainer with an income of 9.2 billion won ($8 million). She was a torch bearer for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
