Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics Co. maintained the top spot in the U.S. mobile phone market, strengthening its supremacy as the world’s leading handset manufacturer, data showed Tuesday.

The company’s market share in the United States came to 25.7 percent during the three-month average period ending in May, up 0.1 percentage point from three months earlier, according to U.S. analytics firm comScore Inc.

The study surveyed around 30,000 smartphone and non-smartphone mobile subscribers aged 13 and over.

LG Electronics Inc. ranked second with 19.1 percent, while iPhone maker Apple Inc. followed with 15 percent. Motorola Mobility Inc. and HTC Corp. came next with 12 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively.

Among the top five players, Samsung and Apple were the only manufacturers that saw their market share rise over the three-month period.

Meanwhile, the data showed 50.9 percent of U.S. smartphone subscribers used Google Inc.’s Android platform, while 31.9 percent opted for iPhones.

There were around 234 million mobile phone users for the three-month average period ending in May. Of the total, nearly 110 million owned smartphones, according to the data. (Yonhap News)
