A 6-year-old New Jersey boy died saving the life of his sister who was being sexually assaulted by an intruder in the children‘s home, a prosecutor said.

The throat of first-grader Dominick Andujar was slashed when he came to the aid of his 12-year-old sister, the Camden Courier-Post reported Wednesday.

“The 6-year-old saved her life,” Camden County Prosecutor Warren Faulk said. “He came to her assistance while she was being assaulted, and as a result of that she was able to get out of the house.”

Dominick was pronounced dead at Cooper University Hospital. His sister, whose throat also was cut, underwent emergency surgery.

She identified the attacker as a local man who often played with neighborhood children.

Osvaldo Rivera, 31, of Camden is being held on $5 million bail.

Authorities said Rivera was high on a combination of marijuana and PCP known as “wet” when be broke into the children’s home early Sunday while their mother was in the hospital recovering from surgery.

현지 언론은 수요일(현지시간) 도미닉 앤듀져(Dominick Andujar)가 6살 많은  누나를 도우려다 가해자가 휘두른 흉기에 찔려 사망했다고 전했다. 

뉴저지주 남서부의 캠던(Camden)지역 검사 워렌 팔크(Warren Faulk)는 “누나가 성폭행을 당하자 도미닉이 구하려 나섰고, 동생의 도움으로 누나는 집에서 빠져 나올 수 있었다”고 말했다. 

가해자 오발도 리베라(31)는 사건 당시 마리화나와 PCP등 마약에 취해있는 상태였으며, 일요일 새벽 2시경 남매가 잠들어 있는 틈을 타 가택에 침입한 것으로 알려졌다. 

같은 시각 아이들의 어머니는 수술을 받고  병원에서 회복 중이어서 집을 비웠던 것으로 전해졌다.

이 사고로 누나(12)는 목에 중상을 입어 쿠퍼 대학병원 응급실로 옮겨졌으며, 동생 도미닉은 도착 직 후 사망 진단을 받았다.

피해자는 자신을 공격한 남성이 이웃 아이들과 종종 놀아줘 동네에서 잘 알려진 인물이라고 말했다.

경찰은 피의자가 자주 드나들던 이스트캠던(East Camden)지역의 한 아파트 침실에서 숨어있던 리베라를 체포했으며, 증거물로 피로 얼룩진 티셔츠와 운동화를 발견했다. 

리베라는 5백만 달러(약 56억 7천 만원)의 보석으로 구금됐다.
