A 20-year-old British woman was sentenced Monday to two years in prison for falsely claiming that she had been raped by three men, according to local news reports.

Rosie Dodd pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was sent to prison by Nottingham Crown Court after she lied to police that three men had raped her at her house in June 2011.

The men, aged 21, 23, and 25, were charged with rape, and spent nearly 50 hours behind bars before being released on bail. They claimed that their sex with Dodd was consensual.

After further investigating the case however, police grew suspicious of Dodd’s accounts.

“We take every report of rape and sexual assault extremely seriously, just as we did in this case. But it soon became apparent that there were inconsistencies with Dodd’s account,” said Detective Constable Gina Farrell, who led the investigation.

The police challenged Dodd, who then confessed that she had made up rape claims because she "regretted" the sexual encounter.

Farrell denounced Dodd and said that there was no justifying such serious and incredibly damaging lies, pointing out that the three men accused of rape suffered severely from the accusation while Dodd did not show any sign of remorse for her wrongdoing.

She added that time the force’s specially-trained officers spent with Dodd could have been given to someone who really needed help.

패럴 수사관은 “이처럼 심각하고 엄청나게 해로운 거짓말은 결코 정당화될 수 없다”라고 하면서 억울하게 성폭행범으로 몰린 세 남성은 이로 인해 굉장한 손해를 받았다고 말했다. 그녀는 이 와중에 도드가 자신의 잘못에 대해 전혀 뉘우치지 않았노라고 비난했다.

또한 패럴 수사관은 실제로 도움이 필요한 사람들을 위해 힘을 썼어야 할 전문요원들이 도드 때문에 시간을 허비했다는 점 역시 지적했다.
