GWANGJU (Yonhap News) ― A lawyer and his office manager were injured here on Monday after being stabbed by a disgruntled client, who complained of their failure to prove his innocence in a criminal case years ago, police said.

The client attacked the 50-year-old lawyer, known only as Seo, and the unidentified office manager at 9 a.m. with a knife at the lawyer‘s office in Gwangju, about 330 kilometers south of Seoul, before running away.

Seo and the manager, who sustained non-life threatening injuries to their thigh, were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The attacker, surnamed Cho, was taken into police custody hours later, after he expressed his intention to turn himself in during a contact with a police officer.

The 47-year-old Cho was convicted on charges of blackmailing and defamation in 2007, but was given a suspended prison term in the local and appellate courts. Seo defended Cho in the appellate trial.

Despite the suspended ruling, Cho expressed complaints and even lodged a one-person protest in front of Seo’s office, insisting that the ruling has completely ruined his life.

Seo paid him back the legal fees, but Cho allegedly asked for further monetary compensation from the lawyer, the police added. (Yonhap News)
