Former President Lee Myung-bak plans to release a memoir on his presidency early next year, his aides said Thursday.

The memoir will come to 900 pages, the aides said. Lee left office in February 2013.

Lee devoted some 500 pages to diplomatic issues, including South Korea’s free trade agreements with the United States and the European Union, as well as green growth, one of his trademark policies.

The signature initiative calls for lessening South Korea’s dependence on fossil fuels and promoting the development of alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind power, and other technologies that enhance energy efficiency.

Still, the memoir will not include chapters on Lee’s successor, current President Park Geun-hye, and opposition parties, according to his aides.

The planned publication comes amid criticism of Lee’s 22 trillion ($19.7 billion) project to refurbish the country’s four major rivers.

The pet project has long been at the center of controversy over allegations of shoddy construction, irreversible environmental damage and collusion in the bidding process for construction contracts.

The Lee administration has also been accused of spending tens of billions of dollars on various natural resources development projects overseas with few results.

Separately, Lee plans to meet with former and current lawmakers who were involved in his presidential campaign on his birthday on Dec. 19, which coincides with his election victory and his wedding anniversary with his wife. (Yonhap)
