Yuhan-Kimberly, a sanitation and baby product company, hosted its annual newlywed couples tree-planting event in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, over the weekend.

Around 800 people, including newlywed couples, its employees, social leaders and Korea Forest Service officials planted 9,000 pine tree saplings, according to the company.

Yuhan-Kimberly hosts a tree-planting event every spring for newlyweds in order to celebrate their new beginning and to leave a greener environment for the future generation, a message that hits closer to home each year as fine dust and yellow dust clouds become an increasing concern. Around 20,000 newlywed couples have participated in the event since its conception, the company said.

Yuhan-Kimberly has carried out the “Make Our Land Green” campaign since 1984, and has been organizing various environmentally friendly events such as tending forests, hosting environmental education for teenagers and forest restoration activities.

Last year, the company planted 50 million trees, one for every South Korean citizen, in celebration of the campaign’s 30th anniversary.
