NK sends letter condemning Trump to foreign parliaments

A North Korean parliamentary committee on diplomacy has sent to foreign parliaments an open letter condemning US President Donald Trump and calling for creating anti-US fronts, the country's state media said Monday.

In a letter to parliaments in other countries, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly rebuked Trump's threat to "totally destroy" the North as an "intolerable insult" to North Koreans, according to the Korean Central News Agency. It did not specify to which country the North sent letters Sunday.

The committee called for foreign parliaments to "fulfill their due missions and duties in realizing human desire for international justice and peace with sharp vigilance" against the US, read the English-language letter carried by the KCNA.

In an address to the UN General Assembly last week, Trump said that the US cannot help but "totally destroy" North Korea if it is forced to defend itself or its allies against a North Korean attack.

In response, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un issued his first personal statement vowing to take the "highest-level" actions against Trump.

North Korea's top diplomat said later that his country may conduct a hydrogen bomb test over the Pacific Ocean.

The US sent B-1B Lancer bombers into international airspace off North Korea's eastern coast over the weekend in the latest show of force against the isolated country. (Yonhap)
